Mud House Marlborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Sep-2014
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of blush, pale on edge. The nose is softly full with lifted pear fruit notes along with honeysuckle, spices and a steely freshness to the aromatic perfumes. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, white floral and pear flavours form a soft core that unfolds perfumed elements and honey. The palate has good drive and power, with a subtle phenolic grip adding to the concentration and line. The mouthfeel is fresh and youthful with balanced acidity that combines with the textures to carry the wine to a long, lingering pear-fruit nuanced finish. This is a soft, fresh, dryish Pinot Gris with pear and floral flavours and some underlying power. Serve with poultry and pork, and with Mediterranean fare over the next 3+ years. Marlborough fruit, two-thirds from the Wairau Valley and one-third Awatere Valley, fermented in stainless-steel with a small portion in seasoned French oak to 14.0% alc. and 5.5 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 17.5+/20 Sep 2014 RRP $18.99
