Mt Difficulty ‘Growers Series – Packspur Vineyard’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 13-May-2011
Made from clones 5, 6, 115, Abel and Lincoln Mix from vines planted by Anne and Laurie McAuley in 1993 in their ‘Packspur Vineyard' on Heany Road, Lowburn. 10% whole bunch, the fruit underwent a cold soak, and native yeast fermented to 13.5% alc. The wine was aged 16 months in barrel. Ruby-red colour with depth and youthful, purple hues. This has a dense, deeply packed nose of dark berry fruit with notes of chocolate, dark herbs and earth. A lush, open-styled wine, this has soft, succulent and sweetly expressed red berry fruit flavours forming a gentle core with hints of earth, mushrooms and oak unfolding. The palate has fine, supple tannins and fresh acidity balancing the fruit richness. An elegant, medium bodied wine with the potential to develop greater interest and complexities over the next 4-6+ years. Match with poultry, pork and mild Asian cuisine. 17.5+/20 May 2011 RRP $65.00
