Mt Difficulty Ghost Town Chardonnay 2020, Central Otago

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 01-May-2023
Bright, even, pale yellow. The nose is full and rich, with aromas of struck-match, roasted nut, spice, underlying citrus and stonefruit. Full-bodied, aromas of grapefruit, Meyer lemon and peach have a concentrated core, unfolding minerals, hazelnut, struck-match, grapefruit peel and spice. The mouthfeel is creamy with a mineral texture, growing layers of fruit, zest, spice and nutty integration. A focused acid tension drives a long, zesty finish. This cool-climate Chardonnay shows a concentration of fruit with attractive and powerful oak integration and a long finish. Match with pull-pork and grilled prawns over the next 8+ years. Fruit from Lowburn Valley, handpicked, destemmed, pressed into barrel, fermented with wild yeast with full solids, 14% new oak, no lees stirring, underwent MLF in spring, bottled unfined in November. 13.5% alc. 19-/20 pts (95 pts) May 2023 RRP $45
