Mt Beautiful North Canterbury Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 06-Aug-2014
Moderately deep ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on rim. This has an elegant and fragrant nose of soft strawberry fruit and red cherries harmoniously entwined with subtle herbal nuances and lifted red florals. Ethereal layers of spices and oak unfold, revealing a good core and heart to the aromatics. Medium-bodied, gently sweet and luscious fruit flavours of fresh red berry fruits and floral elements are the feature on palate. Delicate notes of spice and oak emerge, and the palate is carried by very fine-grained tannins and soft acidity, providing a supple and easy mouthfeel. The wine carries through to a light, dry, refined finish with lingering spice nuances. This is an elegantly luscious, fragrant red fruited Pinot Noir with supple tannins. Serve with firm-fleshed seafood or poultry, and with Thai, Japanese or Vietnamese cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the elevated ‘South’ blocks of the Mt Beautiful vineyard, a mixture of clones, primarily 667 and 777, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 25% new French oak barrels. 3,000 cases made. 17.5/20 Aug 2014 RRP $32.00
