Mt Beautiful North Canterbury Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 27-Jul-2017
Straw-yellow with slight green hues. This has a soft, rich nose of yellow stonefruits with a little savoury secondary development emerging. The oaking inputs are very subtle, and allows the fruit to be the feature. On palate this has good underlying power and drive. Stonefruit and citrus fruit flavours are interwoven with some nutty and steely mineral elements. Again the oaking component is in the background, and the palate showcases freshness now. I remember this being more rounded, earlier this year. Clearly this youthfulness suggests there is the ability for further bottle aging. 17.5+/20 Jul 2017 Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues and some depth, lighter on the rim. This has a soft, harmonious and well-balanced nose packed with aromas of white and yellow stonefruits along with soft, creamy and nutty barrel-ferment notes and a subtle layering of lemon-curd MLF, unfolding delicate mineral detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is stylishly restrained showing flavours of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with creamy and nutty oak, and integrated lemon-curd MLF elements. The mouthfeel is softly rich, but possesses body and presence, the acidity integrated and balanced. Some alcohol power provides drive, and the wine carries along a fine-textured line leading to a gentle and harmonious finish of stonefruits, creamy oak and MLF. This is a gently rich and harmonious Chardonnay with balanced stonefruit, nutty and creamy flavours, along with good body and underlying power. Serve with roast pork over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 95 and 2/23, WBP and predominantly fermented in puncheons, some new, with a portion in tank to 14.5% alc., the barrel component undergoing partial MLF and all of the wine aged 9 months on lees. 1,100 cases made. 18.0/20 Jan 2017 RRP $29.00
