Mr. Riggs ‘Yacca Paddock’ Adelaide Hills Tempranillo 2009

Tempranillo from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 11-Jul-2012
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with purple hues. The bouquet is aromatic and lifted with dark red berry and floral notes alongside savoury earth and mineral elements. Full-bodied, bright red berry fruit flavours with red florals, liquorice and plums form a core, with savoury earth, herb, spice and undergrowth elements present. The alcohol warmth and power is noticeable, adding to the volume and palate presence. This is well-structured with robust tannins and mouthfeel, the acidity in the background. The flavours, grip and alcohol make this an up-front wine, leaving a moderately sustained finish. Savoury red fruits represent the Tempranillo variety in this powerful and structured wine. Serve with slow-cooked meats over the next 5-6+ years. Fruit from the ‘Yacca Paddock' site at Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills, the fermentation completed to 15.0% alc. in 33% new French oak barrels. 861 cases made. 17.5/20 Jul 2012 RRP $31.99
