Mr. Riggs ‘The Truant’ McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 25-Nov-2013
McLaren Vale Shiraz fruit fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in 30% new French oak. Very dark, impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues. This has a soft, densely packed, and well-integrated nose of ripe black fruits, along with plum and black pepper elements. The aromatics are a little shy, revealing subtle nuances of Asian spices in the glass. Full-bodied, rich, sweet and juicy flavours of ripe black plums, jam and boysenberries are enriched by liquorice elements and oak. Fine-grained tannins support the fruit and the flavours are enlivened by ripe, underlying acidity. The palate has a sweet, plush and concentrated core with a rounded mouthfeel which flows seamlessly to a fine, lightly textured, sweet fruited finish with good length. This is a rich and plush, juicy, ripe Shiraz with fine textures, to serve with most roasted red meat dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5/20 Nov 2013 RRP $24.99
