Mr. Riggs ‘Piebald’ Adelaide Syrah 2010

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 11-Jul-2012
Shiraz fruit from the ‘Piebald' site in Clarendon, with fruit from ‘Braden's' and ‘Edgehill - Ding's Block' in the McLaren Vale, co-fermented with a little Viognier to 14.5% alc. Very dark black-red colour, near impenetrable with a crimson rim. This has a concentrated and intense nose of ripe, black fruits with notes of boysenberries, black pepper, earth and a little inky reduction, all still tightly bound and yet to unfold. Full-bodied, up-front and lively bright black berry fruits are laced with lifted dark florals and black pepper and earthy flavours. This fruit is rich and subtly enlivened by discreet acidity, and supported by fine-grained tannins providing an underlying firm line. This is satin-smooth in mouthfeel and the palate flows to a near lush, sustained finish. This is a concentrated, black-fruited Syrah with very fine textures. Match with spicy Asian duck and pork dishes over the next 5-7 years. 1,207 dozen made. 18.0+/20 Jul 2012 $31.99
