Mr. Riggs ‘Cold Chalk’ Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 11-Jul-2012
Clone 84 fruit from 14 y.o. vines from ‘Donald's' vineyard at Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills, WBP and fermented in seasoned French oak to 12.5% alc., the wine given 4 months lees contact. Bright, lemon-green straw colour with a pale edge. The nose is firm and concentrated, with solid and voluminous aromas of chalky minerals, stonefruits and flinty lees, quite complex and layered in expression. Dry and medium-bodied, distinctive and up-front nutty, mineral and chalk-like flavours fill the palate providing a rich and packed, and dense texture. Fine acidity underlines the palate line, but the concentration and depth lead to a solid and broad finish with lingering nuances of flint and minerals. This is a richly packed, soft and balanced Chardonnay with Chablis-like chalky flavours. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. 276 cases made. 18.0/20 Jul 2012 RRP $31.99
