Mouton Cadet ‘Reserve’ Bordeaux 2011

Merlot from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 10-Mar-2014
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with deep heart, a little lighter on rim. This is elegant on nose with some sweetly ripe red and black berry fruit aromas enriched by oak lift and spice. The nose builds in intensity in the glass and reveals some fine herb interest. Medium-bodied, soft, sweet dark red berry fruit flavours show ripeness with soft tannin support. The mouthfeel is rounded, and follows a fine tannin line. Soft acidity adds to the fruit succulence and provides the palate with balance. The flavours have good drive and lead to a moderately long finish. This is a soft, elegant, modest Bordeaux red with balanced tannin and fruit richness. Match with roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4+ years. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine lightly oaked. 17.0-/20 Mar 2014 RRP $36.00 Very full, even, youthful dark ruby-red colour. This has an elegant and tightly bound nose with concentrated and integrated aromas of dark plums, blackcurrants and subtle oak nuances. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, fine, grainy tannins form a tight line, carrying somewhat restrained fruit flavours of earthy plums and redcurrants on the palate. The mouthfeel and textures are harmonious and balanced providing good presence and weight. Soft acidity allows the extraction to prevail, leading to a dry, grainy finish. This is an elegant, dry and textured Bordeaux red with harmony. Serve with roasted red meats, casseroles and hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine lightly oaked. 17.0-/20 Nov 2013 RRP $36.00
