Mount Riley ‘Seventeen Valley’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Aug-2013
Brilliant pale straw-yellow colour with light green hues, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned and finely presented with an intense, complex melange of white and yellow stonefruits, nutty, toasty oak, flint and mineral elements along with background butterscotch MLF notes. Medium-full bodied, powerfully intense and rich flavours of stonefruits combine with cream, butter, nuts and flinty lees complexities. Nuances of smoke, toast and minerals unfold, adding considerable detail. The palate is refined in texture with discreet acidity provides good energy and tension, contributing to excellent linearity. The flavours of flinty, stonefruits, nut and butter are carried to a very long and lingering, dry finish. This is an elegant and seamless Chardonnay with complex stonefruit, flinty and creamy flavours. Serve with roasted poultry or pork over the next 4-5 years. Clones 95 and 2/23 from the ‘Seventeen Valley’ and ‘Dillons’ vineyards, hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with full solids to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in 30% new French oak barriques with partial MLF, and batonnage. 18.5+/20 Aug 2013 RRP $27.99
