Mount Riley Marlborough Merlot/Malbec 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Nov-2015
A blend of 94.5% Merlot and 4.5% Malbec from the central Wairau Valley, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 10% new French oak barriques. Bright, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. This has a firm and well-concentrated nose of dark red berry fruit with herbal infused plum notes, along with redcurrants, black berry suggestions and mineral nuances. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses a good core of dark red and black berried fruits melded with a line of soft herbs and currants. The palate is supported by supple tannin extraction and integrated acidity lending a harmonious mouthfeel and flow. Mineral elements emerge and are carried to a rounded, moderately long, lingering dry finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Merlot blend with currant, plum and herbal flavours, and a supple mouthfeel. Serve with herb-marinated beef and lamb dishes over the next 3+years. 16.5+/20 Nov 2015 RRP $18.99
