Hawke's Bay fruit, hand-picked and WBP, then fully barrel-fermented in mainly new French oak barriques to 14.0% alc., and then aged in these barrels, the wine undergoing batonnage and partial MLF. Bright, full, light golden-straw yellow colour. This has a tight and richly concentrated nose with aromas of savour citrus fruits unfolding tropical fruit elements with harmoniously balanced mealiness and toast oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is densely packed with flavours of ripe, savoury grapefruit and yellow stonefruit flavours. Subtle notes of toast oak, butter and nuts unfold in the glass. The mouthfeel is soft and creamy with near unctuous textures, the restrained acidity adding to the roundness. However, this has good power and drive, leading to a long, subtly-flavoured, weighty and vinous finish. This Chardonnay has concentrated fruit and weight, and should reveal more richness over the next 4-5 years. Match with roasted pork. 18.0/20 Jun 2012 RRP $34.95
