Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on rim. This has a powerful, direct and concentrated nose of fresh, ripe citrus fruits, mealy notes and toasty oak aromas. The bouquet has cut and depth, with some secondary nutty, oxidative nuances adding complexity. Full-bodied and showing great depth and power, the flavours of citrussy fruit mealy nuttiness and oak are still tightly bound and packed, and provide a core with drive and focus. The wine is beginning to unfold with a roundness appearing along with smooth, lush textures being a feature of the palate. Nutty, oxidative complexities merge with toasty elements and form a very long and sustained finish. 100% Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Kinross' and ‘Riverview' vineyards, hand-picked and WBP, barrel-fermented to 14.1% alc. and aged 11 months in 90% new French oak, the wine lees-stirred, 24% undergoing MLF. A classically proportioned and powerful Chardonnay that is starting to show secondary, nutty interest. Match with roast poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years. 19.0-/20 Dec 2011 RRP $34.95
