Montechez ‘Reserva’ Mendoza Malbec 2009

Malbec from Argentina
Review Date : 06-Mar-2012
Bright, purple-hued ruby-red, slightly lighter on rim, youthful in appearance. This has an elegant, tightly bound, firm nose with aromas of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, along with dusty oak spices and floral lift. Medium-full bodied, rich flavours of black fruits, liquorice, exotic spices and oak cedar explode on the palate. This has depth and concentration, along with richness. The tannins are firm, but fine-grained, and provide real linearity and drive, and along with good acidity, this is fresh and youthful in presentation. The finish is marked by long lingering flavours of spiced plums, smoke and cedar. This is a richly flavoured and concentrated, firmly textured wine with ripe fruit to match barbecued, grilled and roasted beef and venison over the next 7-9 years. Fruit from ‘La Consulta', Uco Valley from 4 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 8 months in French and American oak. 18.5/20 Mar 2012 RRP $30.00
