Montechez ‘Limited Edition’ Mendoza Malbec 2009

Malbec from Argentina
Review Date : 06-Mar-2012
Hand-picked fruit from ‘Agrelo', Lujan de Cuyo, from 35 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Very full,, near-saturated, dark purple-red colour. The bouquet is concentrated and very intense with ripe black berry and plum aromas, spices, oak lift and violet-like perfumes. Very tightly bound and restrained in expression, this has concentration and depth of spicy black fruits with notes of liquorice and florals, along with some sulphide reduction dumbing the fruit a little. Oaking is sensitive and balanced. This is a seriously constructed wine with fine, powdery tannins complemented by lacy acidity which leads to a long, tightly packed finish of liquorice, Asian spices and earth. This concentrated and fine-grained wine will benefit from another 2 years bottle age when it will unfold and become richer and more complex. Match with roasted lamb and hard cheeses over the next 10-12 years. 1,585 cases made. 18.0/20 RRP $42.00
