Monowai Crownthorpe Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Mar-2014
Bright, even, lemon-hued straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is fresh and aromatic with lifted yellow stonefruit and citrus fruits, along with fermentation esters and nutty oak notes. Subtle lees and butterscotch MLF elements add detail. Medium-bodied and slender in presentation, light citrus fruit flavours and nutty barrel-ferment elements form an aromatic amalgam with gentle richness. The mouthfeel has creaminess balanced by soft acidity, and the palate flows with good tension and energy to a lingering, dry finish with nutty notes. This is an elegant and slender Chardonnay with subtle detail to the stonefruit flavours and gentle, creamy textures. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the Monowai estate vineyards, 60% barrel-fermented in French oak with 40% tank fermented to 13.0% alc., the barrel portion undergoing MLF and the tank parcel aged on lees. 17.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $20.00
