Monowai Crownthorpe Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Mar-2014
Hand-picked fruit 60% barrel-fermented in French oak with 40% tank fermented to 12.5% alc., the barrel portion undergoing MLF, the tank parcel aged on lees. Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, lighter edged. This has a light, clean and softly full nose that grows in depth in the glass, revealing delicate white stonefruit, citrus and butterscotch MLF aromas. Dry and light-medium bodied, crisp and straightforward citrus and stonefruit flavours are melded with butterscotch MLF flavours, and sit on a light, dry and fine palate, showing a degree of austerity. The MLF unfolds to provide some toasty oak nuance for interest and detail. A light, textured line and brisk acidity carries the palate to a dry finish. This is a crisp and dry Chardonnay with restrained citrus, butterscotch and toasty flavours. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 3 years. 16.5-/20 Mar 2014 RRP $20.00
