Mondillo Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 15-Feb-2021
Clear, deep ruby-red with good transparency, lighter edged. The nose is gently full with power and volume; nuances of black cherries, blackberries interweave rich floral and a hint of dark herbs, unfolding barrel spices and toasty elements. Medium-full bodied, a mouthful of sweet black cherries, almost plummy, and blackberries aromas, melded with vanilla, cinnamon and thyme, black pepper linger with alcohol power lends a sustained, long finish. Underlined alcohol power balanced with fruit intensity; integrated acidity carries black pepper through the palate. The mouthfeel is filling; velvety tannin extraction provides some texture and grip. This is a full and dark-fruited Pinot Noir from a warm vintage, with strength and power on an elegant, silky palate. Match with lamb roast and venison ribs over the next 5+ years. 14.5% alc. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Feb 2021 RRP $48
