Mondillo Bendigo Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 08-Sep-2014
Very deep black-red colour, this has a very firmly packed and concentrated nose of black cherry and black berry fruits, showing ripeness, with complex nuances of minerals and dark herbs, unfolding some savoury, secondary dried herb and undergrowth elements. Medium-full to full bodied, rich and concentrated flavours of ripe black fruits are framed by mouthfilling tannin structure. The mouthfeel is robust, but the textures fine-grained, allowing the sweetness to feature. This has freshness, vitality and a firm line with good power and drive, carrying the palate to a long finish. This is ripe, fulsome and muscular, and will keep 6+ years. 19.0-/20 Sep 2014 RRP $N/A Darkish ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues and a pale edge, this has a bright, tightly bound, but rich bouquet of ripe dark cherry and berry fruits with a near-ethereal violetty aromatics. Medium-full bodied, the dark cherry and floral fruit flavours are still restrained and locked up, but there is an underlying concentration and core supported by fine, supple, tannin extraction and fresh acid cut. Oaking is subtle and sympathetic. This is a well-proportioned wine that will open up and blossom over the next 5-7 years. Pommard and Dijon clone fruit from the ‘Mondillo' vineyard in Bendigo, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and inoculated for fermentation to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French oak, 30% new. Match with firm fleshed seafood, ruck and pork dishes. 18.5-/20 Aug 2011 RRP $ 40.00
