Mon Cheval Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 21-Jan-2016
Even garnet-red colour, paler on the rim. The bouquet is elegantly presented with good depth and intensity of lifted red berry fruit and fragrant red florals, interwoven with fine complexing, savoury notes of dried herbs and truffles. The secondary development is the feature. Medium-full bodied, the flavours are bright, vibrant and sweetly expressed with subtle succulence. Soft and savoury red berry fruits, red florals, dried herbs and undergrowth gently unfold to fill the mouth. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction, with balanced acidity lending energy. The wine carries to an elegant, sustained finish of red fruits, lifted florals and dried herbs. This is an elegantly presented, aromatic Pinot Noir with sweet red fruits, savoury secondary complexities and fine structure. Match with wild duck and pork dishes over the next 4-5 years. Clones 5, 115, 10/5, 777 and 667, destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in approx. one-third new French oak. 18.0+/20 Jan 2016 RRP $45.00
