Moana Park ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Jan-2017
Full, dark, black-red colour with slight garnet hues on the rim. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated with intense and penetrating aromas of black and dark-red berry fruit and dark plums, entwined with fresh dark herbs, spices, iron-earth minerals and a touch of reduction. Medium-full bodied, the palate features bright and vibrant, rich and sweet fruit flavours of black and dark-red berry fruits with plum notes. The fruit has liveliness and lusciousness, lending vitality to the mouthfeel. Frain-grained, powdery tannins support the fruit and integrated lacy acidity lends energy. Spicy black fruits, dark herbs and minerals unfold to add interest, and carry to an elegant, lingering finish. This is a vibrant and lively, sweet-fruited Merlot with black and dark-red berry and plum fruit with a fine-grained structure. Match with lamb and beef, and with semi-hard cheeses over the next 6-8 years. A blend of 94% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Road vineyard, hand-picked, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 24 months in 50% new French oak. 18.0+/20 Jan 2017 RRP $45.00
