Moana Park ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ ‘Gimblett Road’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Mar-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly presented with aromas of ripe black and dark red berry and plum fruit. This has good depth and intensity that build in the glass, revealing black minerals and iron-earth notes, spices and herbs and some oak with resinous nuances. Medium-full bodied, plush and juicy fruit flavours of black plums and blackcurrants are the feature on the palate. The fruit is supported by fine-grained, powdery tannins and softly drying structure, balancing the fruit sweetness. Layers of spice, herbs, earth and dusty oak unfold to lend detail and interest. The mouthfeel is balanced and well-proportioned, and the flavours are carried to a sustained finish. This is a rich-fruited and finely textured and structured Merlot blend with some dusty oak. Match with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 6-8+ years. 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Syrah from the Gimblett Road vineyard, a portion given a cold soak, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 45% new French oak. 612 dozen made. 17.5+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $45.00
