Moana Park Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2015

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Jan-2017
Full, dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is well-concentrated with aromas of dark-red berry and savoury mulberry fruit entwined with black fruits, spices, earth and ink, and a suggestion of funky game. Medium-bodied, the palate has concentrated, lively and sweet flavours of savoury red berry fruits, mulberries and plums, along with a layering of dark herbs and earthy detail. The fruit is supported by fine, grainy tannin extraction and balanced acidity lending good linearity and flow. The wine carries to a long, bright finish unfolding black fruit notes. This is a lively, fresh, Merlot/Malbec blend with sweet and savoury dark red berry and mulberry flavours with dark herb notes on a grainy-textured palate. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Malbec from the Gimblett Road vineyard, given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 35% new French oak. 17.5-/20 Jan 2017 RRP $25.00
