Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Gimblett Road’ vineyard, hand-picked and WBP, 50% indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 30% new French oak barriques, undergoing 100% MLF and batonnage. Bright, light golden hued straw-yellow, lighter on rim. The nose is full and voluminous with openly accessible aromas of butterscotch MLF with light, ripe citrus fruit and nutty notes at the core. Full-bodied, with a very soft, mellow broad and rounded mouthfeel, plush and rich flavours of butterscotch and yellow stonefruits fill the palate flow seamlessly, the low acidity adding to the fulsome presence. Layers of cream and caramel unfold, with the alcohol power and drive growing, and carrying the unctuous flavours to a soft finish lifted by some acid piquancy. This is a very soft, mellow, warm and broad Chardonnay with butterscotch and caramel flavours. Match with roast pork and rich Middle Eastern fare over the next 2-3 years. 16.5/20 Sep 2013 RRP $25.00
