Moana Park Gimblett Road Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Jul-2014
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant with concentrated, ripe aromas of black berry and raspberry fruits, with lifted dark red florals, Asian spices and black pepper. The nose grows in volume with aeration. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, vibrantly rich and ripe, succulently sweet fruit flavours of dark raspberries, boysenberries, black pepper and iron-earth are enriched and enlivened by fresh acidity. The fruit is supported by fine, grainy tannin structure that provides palate line and a balancing, textured mouthfeel. This is well composed and the flavours flow with good energy to a dry, elegant, sustained finish. This is a sweetly ripe, black and raspberry fruited Syrah with pepper and iron-like flavours and good extract, expressive of the Gimblett Gravels. Serve with roasted and grilled lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6+ years. A single vineyard wine, fruit from the company’s Gimblett ‘Onewa’ site, destemmed and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine on skins up to 30 days and aged 11 months in 30% new French oak barrels. Lot LSY 140311. 18.0+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $23.00
