Misty Cove Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 03-Dec-2013
Wairau Valley fruit from a Spring Creek and a Kaituna vineyard, destemmed and given a cold soak, fermented partially with indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine given 20 days skin contact after ferment and aged 6 months in seasoned oak. Very dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple hues on edge. This has a fresh, rich and primary fruited nose with an amalgam of dark raspberries entwined with dark herbs, a little reductive chariness and some funky game-like nuances. Medium-full bodied, bold and deep flavours of sweet, dark raspberries show with tamarillo-like fruit, piquant dark herbs and savoury, game-like complexities. The palate has grainy tannins and fresh, lively acidity filling the mouth and providing drive, with some alcohol generosity adding to the palate presence. The finish is dry and textured with lush raspberry fruit nuances lingering. This is a bold and fruity, youthfully tannic Pinot Noir with game-like complexities. Match with barbecued and grilled red meats over the next 3-4+ years. 16.5+/20 Dec 2013 RRP $22.99
