Misty Cove ‘Ella Maria’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 21-Mar-2013
Named after Andrew and Marieke Bailey’s daughter. Sources from a single Rapaura vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc with a small portion of Semillon, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., and aged 8 months in 3 y.o. French oak, the wine undergoing batonnage. Brilliant, even straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. The bouquet is full with good depth and presence, showing intense and well-concentrated, fresh aromas of nectarines, spices, nutty oak and smoke. Dry and full-bodied, powerful flavours of spicy nectarines, herbs and greengage fruit are complexed by strong oak, yet to integrate. This has plenty of weight and presence, with a lanolin-like creaminess to the mouthfeel, balanced by bracing, penetrating acidity and a slightly grainy, textural thread. This has richness and boldness, with the oak and acidity quite prominent, the flavours carrying through to a moderately long finish. This is a sophisticated, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with bold brashness that will benefit with some more bottle-age to integrate and soften. Match with grilled and roasted seafood, poultry and vegetables over the next 3-4 years. 100 dozen made. 18.0+/20 Mar 2013 RRP $26.99
