Mission ‘Vineyard Selection’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 17-Feb-2016
Fruit from the company’s ‘Blind River’ vineyard in the Awatere Valley, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 4 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Light golden colour with some depth, paler on the rim. This has a full, robust and well-concentrated bouquet of white and yellow stonefruits, aromatic pears and honeysuckle entwined with flinty lees complexities. Dry to taste and fulsome on the palate with good presence and weight, the flavours of savoury white and yellow stonefruits are restrained in expression, but form a good core with the phenolic textures. The palate has good energy from background acidity and is driven a little by underlying alcoholic power. The wine carries to a sustained finish with savoury fruit and mineral elements. This is a robust, dry Pinot Gris with savoury stonefruit and flinty flavours and some texture and power. Match with Mediterranean fare over the next 2-3 years. 16.5+/20 Feb 2016 RRP $17.99
