Mission ‘Vineyard Selection’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Aug-2015
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with light, youthful, purple on the rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with aromas of ripe, black berried fruits entwined with white and black pepper and lifted dark red and violet florals. The aromatics are fruit-driven and have good intensity, revealing subtle liquorice and spice nuances with aeration. Medium-bodied and finely proportioned, the flavours of ripe black berries and pepper show with depth and intensity and are lifted by white pepper and floral elements. Supple tannin extraction supports the fruit and allows the fruit sweetness to feature. The wine has good drive and linearity and carries to a soft, supple and finely textured finish. This is an elegant, intense, black-fruited Syrah with peppery interest and supple mouthfeel. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3 years. Hawke’s Bay fruit including parcels from Gimblett Road and Mere Road, the Triangle and Ohiti Road, fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine spending up to 3 weeks on skins post ferment and aged in tank as well as French oak barrels for 14 months. 17.0/20 Aug 2015 RRP $17.99
