Mission ‘Vineyard Selection’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Jan-2017
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a softly full, well-packed, dense nose, the aromas of ripe dark-red plums and red berry fruit a little restrained, but harmoniously entwined with earthy, dark herb and cedary oak nuances. Medium-full bodied, the palate is full with harmoniously melded flavours of dark-red plum and berry fruit flavours along with subtle notes of earth, herbs and cedary oak. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction, and the mouthfeel is soft from integrated acidity. The flavours carry to a gentle finish of plums and earth. This is a softly full Merlot with harmonious flavours of plums and earth, with fine tannin structure. Match with roasted red meats and casseroles over the next 4+ years. Fruit from various sites including the company’s ‘Mere Road’ vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak barriques and tank. 17.0+/20 Feb 2017 RRP $20.00
