Merlot fruit from inland sites including Ohiti Road and the Bridge Pa Triangle, fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine spending 7-21 days on skins post ferment and given light oak maturation. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour, a little lighter on edge. This has a shy, light nose with restrained aromas of dark red berry and plum fruit, lifted by piquant pepper and redcurrant notes, revealing dusty, earth and leafy elements with time in the glass. Medium-bodied and elegant in presentation, this has a light core of black berried and plum fruits entwined with earthy and curranty nuances. The fruit has sweetness which is balanced by fine, dry, grainy tannins that carry the wine. Fresh acidity lends liveliness to the mouthfeel, and the wine carries to a bright, light-fruited, fine-textured finish. This is an elegant, restrained Merlot with berry and plum flavours and a fresh, light-textured palate. Serve with roasted and grilled red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 2-3 years. 16.5/20 Aug 2015 RRP $17.99
