Mission ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Malbec 2013

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Feb-2016
Full, impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues on the rim. The nose is full and deeply concentrated with aromas of ripe blackberry fruits with plums and boysenberries, and subtle notes of liquorice and spice, unfolding nuances of earth and black minerals. Medium-full bodied, the palate features soft and broad, mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry fruit entwined with spicy plums and boysenberries. The fruit is sweetly rich and supported by supple, grainy tannins, with good underlying acid freshness. This is well balanced and proportioned. The wine flows with positive drive carrying to a sustained, rich, juicy and plush finish. This is a soft, sweetly rich and broad, mouthfilling Malbec with fine, grainy structure and body. Serve with roasted game meat dishes over the next 7-9+ years. Fruit from a 1 ha block in the Bridge Pa Triangle, fermented to 14.3% alc., the wine spending 10 days on skins post ferment and aged 12 months in 10% new oak. 530 dozen made. 18.0+/20 Feb 2016 RRP $24.95
