Mission ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-May-2016
Full, bright, light golden-yellow colour with slight green hues, a little lighter on the edge. This has a restrained nose, but quite complete at the heart with layers of white stonefruits and citrus fruits melded with flinty and mineral complexities, nutty lees and subtle oak elements. The aromatics are refreshing, bright and mouthwatering, and build in intensity with aeration, unfolding white florals and toasty detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is bright and zesty with racy acidity enlivening and lifting the citrus and white stonefruit flavours. There are creamy and nutty barrel-ferment notes along with smoky hints, these cut by the bracing acidity. The wine has excellent energy and tension, and flows along a fine-textured, tightly bound line, leading to a fresh, lively, dry finish with citrus, flinty, mealy, nutty and toasty nuances. This is a bright, crisp and racy Chardonnay with lively mouthfeel and complex layers of detail. Serve with roasted seafood over the next 4-5 years. Mendoza and clone 15 fruit from Ohiti Road, Church Road and Haumoana, from vines 10-20 y.o., 60% hand-picked, WBP and barrel-fermented, partly by indigenous yeasts to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 9 months on lees in 20% new French oak barrels with no MLF. 18.0/20 May 2016 RRP $29.00
