Mission ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Aug-2015
Hand-picked Mendoza and clone 15 fruit from Ohiti Road and Church Road, vines 10-20 y.o., partially indigenous yeast, fully barrel-fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine aged on lees in 18% new French oak with 50% MLF. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues. The nose is firm and tightly concentrated with a deep core of white stonefruit and citrus fruit aromas entwined with strong flinty lees and reductive complexities, nutty elements and smoky oak. Medium-full bodied, rich, sweet and luscious flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruits are the feature. The fruit is harmoniously melded with layers of flinty lees, and nutty and toasty oak forming a rounded, but firm heart. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with bright acid cut, moderating the weight and body, and the wine follows a fine-textured line leading to a complex, lingering finish with flinty and nutty elements. This is a rich, concentrated, bright and lively Chardonnay with stonefruit, citrus, flinty and toasty flavours. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. 18.5/20 Aug 2015 RRP $24.99
