Mission ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Aug-2015
85% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Triangle from vine over 15 y.o., blended with 15% Mere Road Merlot, fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine given 30 days post ferment maceration and aged 12 months in 20% new oak barrels. Full, near impenetrable, black-hued purple-red colour, very youthful in appearance. The nose is tightly bound with intense and pure aromas o blackcurrants and cassis, enlivened by piquant notes of mint and fresh herbs. The fruit is vibrant and lively, revealing subtle layers of nutty, pencilly oak and hints of cedar. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, the palate features succulently sweet, ripe blackcurrant fruit flavours along with fresh herb detail and a suggestion of complex, funky game, along with cedary oak detail. The palate is very well-balanced with fine-grained, flowery tannins and vibrant, but soft acidity and energy. This has linearity which leads to a long, lingering, sweet finish with fine textures. This is a sweet, lush, vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon with ripe fruit and fine tannin structure. Match with venison and game meat over the next 7-10 years. 18.5/20 Aug 2015 RRP $24.99
