Mission ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Aug-2015
A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Mere Road and Gimblett Road vineyards, 45% Merlot from the Mere Road vineyard, and 6% Cabernet Franc from Bridge Pa Triangle, fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 20% new French oak barriques. Full, dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has a full, voluminous, up-front, but concentrated bouquet of ripe blackcurrant fruit harmoniously entwined with black plums. The nose unfolds mint and leafy detail, along with black floral elements, all expressed with finesse. Medium-full bodied, the front palate features sweet, ripe, and plush fruit flavours of blackcurrants and blackberries with rich plum elements. Nuances of cassis, fresh herbs and leaf add aromatic lift. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained, powdery tannin structure and fresh, bright acidity which carries the wine to a fine-textured, long lingering finish of spicy blackcurrants. This is a full, deep, plush Cabernet and Merlot blend with blackcurrant and minty flavours and a fine-textured palate. Match with herb-marinated lamb and beef dishes over the next 8-10+ years. 1,500 dozen made. 18.5/20 Aug 2015 RRP $24.99
