Mission ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2012

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Aug-2015
Full, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has an elegantly presented nose subtle, savoury blackcurrant and green olive fruit aromas along with redcurrants, plums and harmoniously interwoven notes of dried herbs, earth and cedar. The fruit is beginning to show some secondary interest. Medium-bodied, flavours of savoury currants, plums and dried herbs form a concentrated core. This has good weight and mouthfeel with fine-grained tannin structure and fresh, piquant acidity supporting the fruit, providing good tension and energy. The grip and textures carry the wine to a dry, positive and sustained finish with acid lifted herbal, leaf and curranty notes. This is a moderately concentrated Cabernet/Merlot blend with savoury currant, herb and plum flavours and a bright, grainy-textured mouthfeel. Match with roast red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5 years. A blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 5% Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 20% new French oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Aug 2015 RRP $24.99
