Mission ‘Jewelstone’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-May-2017
Bright, light golden-yellow colour, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is elegantly proportioned with layers of complexing aromas showing white stonefruits and citrus fruit entwined with nutty oak and subtle, creamy barrel-ferment elements along with moderately intense gunflinty and minerally reductive detail. The nose has a steely freshness, finesse and intensity. Medium-full bodied, the palate has good intensity and liveliness, with plenty of drive from fresh, mouthwatering acidity underlying the white stonefruit flavours. Citrus fruits, white florals and flinty notes are all entwined, with nutty oak and mineral nuances. The fruit follows a fine-textured, moderately firm line that carries to a refined, long lingering finish of white stonefruits and flinty. This is a taut and lively, contemporary Chardonnay with flavours of white stonefruits and flinty complexities, and refined textures. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit, old vine Mendoza and clone 15, from a single site, WBP, and fully barrel-fermented to 14.3% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees in 30% new French oak barrels. 420 dozen produced. 18.5+/20 May 2017 RRP $40.00
