Mission ‘Jewelstone’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-May-2016
Bright, even straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues, paler on the rim. This has a fuill, openly accessible and bright, aromatic nose of white stonefruits, peaches, melons and citrus fruits, along with tropical fruit notes entwined with mealy and nutty complexities, subtle gunflint and mineral notes, oxidative suggestions and lemon-curd MLF. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruits are melded with mealy and nutty notes, creamy barrel-ferment and lemon-curd MLF, forming a firm core. Complexing oak and gunflint elements add detail. The mouthfeel is soft and very fine-textured, and underlined by lacy and refreshing acidity. Layers of mealy fruit and nutty oak blossom from the heart, and the wine carries to a long, rounded, but dry finish with nutty, mealy and oaky interest. This is a lively, rich and detailed Chardonnay with layers of mealy, nutty and creamy complexities. Match with roast pork over the next 5 years. Hand-picked fruit from a single block of old Mendoza vines, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 13.6% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees in 26% new French oak, with full MLF conversion. 500 dozen made. 18.5+/20 May 2016 RRP $40.00
