Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Feb-2017
Very dark, deep ruby-red colour with black hues and lighter purple tints on the edge. The bouquet is full and voluminous with layers of sweetly ripe dark-red berry fruits, redcurrants and plums, harmoniously melded with exotic spices and cedary oak, unfolding a complex amalgam of savoury herbs and red florals. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and lush with harmoniously interwoven flavours of dark-red berry and plum fruit melded with a layer of spicy and cedary oak. The mouthfeel is succulent and rich, and smooth-flowing with supple, fine-grained, but substantial tannins and positive underlying structure, the acidity balanced and integrated. The wine carries to a long, elegant herb and cedary finish. This is a rich and harmonious Merlot blend with smooth berry, plum and herb flavours layered with spicy and cedary oak on a supple, fine-structured palate. The nose is well-concentrated with a fulsome, aromatic array of ripe black berried fruits and dark savoury plums, along with notes of iron-earth, meat and toasty oak. The nose unfolds complexing, slightly funky detail.
