Mission ‘Huchet’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2007

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Jun-2011
100% Syrah from two selected parcels in the ‘Mere Road' vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 14.3% alc., the wine aged 15 months in new and 1 y.o. French oak. Impenetrable, saturated black-red in colour, this has a very rich, deep nose that unfolds layers of black fruits, cassis, black pepper and spices with hints earth and complexing game nuances. The nose is densely rich and brooding. On palate a full-bodied, densely concentrated wine with mouthfilling flavours of black fruits, pepper and spices, allied to complex secondary, savoury meat and truffle elements that are beginning to appear. The fruit weight is sensational, and is balanced by fine-grained, but significant tannin extraction. This is a wine with great substance, yet retains a sense of style and excellent proportion. It will open up and reveal greater interest with time, and develop for 15-20+/ years. Serve with red game meat dishes. 138 dozen made. 19.5+/20 Jun 2011 RRP $100.00
