Mission ‘Barrique Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Jan-2017
Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, paler edged. The nose is tightly bound and firmly concentrated with intense aromas of fresh citrus fruit and mealy interest, melded with nutty and spicy oak. The aromatics are refreshing and detailed. Medium-full bodied, the palate is fine and firmly bound with crisp and steely citrus and white stonefruit flavours, along with subtle creamy and nutty barrel-ferment notes at the core. The mouthfeel is fresh with piquant acidity and the wine flows along a very fine phenolic threaded line leading to a dry, nuanced finish of citrus fruit and spicy oak. This is a firm and tightly bound, refreshing Chardonnay with citrus and stonefruit flavours melded with nutty oak, flowing along a very fine, tight line. Match with grilled and roasted seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. Predominantly clone 15 and Mendoza fruit from Ohiti Road, Church Road and Dartmoor, vines 10-20 y.o., 75% hand-picked, WBP and barrel-fermented, the wine at 13.4% alc. and the barrel portion aged 7 months on lees in 22% new French oak. There was no MLF conversion. 18.0-/20 Feb 2017 RRP $29.00
