Mimic Jumilla Old Vine Shiraz 2013

Syrah from Spain
Review Date : 21-Jan-2016
A Spanish take on Australian Shiraz from Bodegas Vina Elena. 100% Shiraz from Jumilla fermented to 14.5% alc., 40% of the wine aged 6 months in 20% new French and American oak. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with purple hues, light-edged. The nose is moderately firm and concentrated with aromas of ripe dark red and black berried fruits, hints of plums, with spices, black pepper, chocolate and herbs adding detail and interest. Medium-full bodied, rich, plush and sweet fruit-flavours of dark raspberries and blackberries fill the mouth, revealing notes of eucalypt, mint, black pepper and cedary oak. The fruit is subtly enlivened by soft acidity and balanced by supple, underlying tannins, providing a positive mouthfeel and body. Aromatic whole berry fermentation flavours emerge and are carried by the alcohol drive to an aromatic, lingering finish. This is an up-front, sweet-fruited Shiraz with soft tannins and some alcohol drive. Serve with barbecued, grilled and roasted red meat dishes over the next 3-4 years. 17.0/20 Jan 2016 RRP $15.95
