Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Fruit from the Wairau Valley given a cold soak and fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged over 12 months in French oak. Moderately deep ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, lighter on rim. This has a fresh nose, initially shy, but unfolding to reveal savoury dark red berry fruits entwined with herb elements, red florals, liquorice and spices, and nutty oak. Medium-bodied and elegantly presented, the flavours of savoury dark raspberry fruit, herbs, earth and spices are enlivened by elevated acidity. The mouthfeel is racy and refreshing and the wine follows a firm, but fine line of tannins, leading to a dry-textured finish of red liquorice and herbs. This is an elegant Pinot Noir with savoury raspberry fruit and a firm, lively mouthfeel. Match with wild duck and pork dihes over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $24.95
