Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Nov-2015
Full, moderately deep straw-yellow colour with light golden hues and a suggestion of blush. This has a fresh, intense and well-concentrated nose with aromas of pears and pear-drops, along with exotic florals, hints of spices and honeysuckle, and lifted fermentation esters. Some confectionary, honeysuckle and creamy barrel-ferment elements emerge in the glass. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and rounded at the core with aromatic and lifted pear and stonefruit flavours, enhanced by exotic floral and esters. The mouthfeel is rich, weighty and lush, with soft textures. Gentle acidity enhances the sweetness and liveliness, and the wine follows a linear phenolic thread with a little grip, leading to a lifted, butty and spicy, oak nuanced finish. This is a gently rich and rounded, dry Pinot Gris with lifted aromatics and a soft-textured mouthfeel. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years. Fruit from a single site in Maraekakaho, fermented in seasoned oak to 13.3% alc. and 2.0 g/L RS, and aged 10 weeks in oak. 17.5-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $24.95
