Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Feb-2012
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, pale on edge. This has a tight and firm nose of white stonefruits, pears, herbs and minerals that opens out in the glass to reveal spice notes and flint. Dryish to taste, the flavours of white stonefruits and pears are gently expressed on an attractive, oily-textured palate that is softly decadent. Layers of honey and floral characters emerge, and build in depth. Lacy acidity provides great tension, poise and drive, leading to a long lifted finish with honey and white florals. Fruit from the Maraekakaho district, fermented in seasoned oak to 14.0% alc. and 3.28 g/L rs, the wine aged in barrel nearly 2 months. A gentle, lively Pinot Gris that blossoms in aromas and flavours. Serve with subtle Asian pork dishes over the next 2-3+ years. 17.5-/20 Feb 2012 RRP $24.95
