Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Jul-2014
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on edge. The nose is full and voluminous with softly packed aromas of aromatic citrus and yellow stonefruits along with delicate layers of nutty oak. A complex, creamy, buttery barrel-ferment MLF amalgam emerges with aeration. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, gently rich, concentrated and mouthfilling flavours of citrus fruits and ripe stonefruits are harmoniously entwined with nutty, creamy flavours. The palate flows smoothly with good, lacy, underlying acidity balancing the richness and breadth. A very fine textural thread leads to a dry, detailed lingering finish with mealy, nutty and oxidative nuances. This is a soft, smooth, creamy and nutty Chardonnay with richness and harmony. Match with roast chicken or pork over the next 3-4+ years. Fruit from Mere Road in the Gimblett Gravels, Meeanee and Te Awanga, fully barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in oak, undergoing batonnage and 26% MLF. 17.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $25.00
