Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Sep-2013
Fruit from Mere Road and Meeanee, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in oak with 25% MLF and batonnage. Bright, light golden yellow colour with good depth. This has a bold, up-front and well-packed nose with savoury citrus fruit aromas along with oxidative nutty elements. Yellow stonefruits, butterscotch, toasty oak and complex lees notess unfold and broaden the bouquet, adding layers of interest. Full-bodied and weighty, the palate features integrated flavours of ripe, savoury citrus and stonefruits with nutty, oxidative lees, butter and toast. This is sweet and lush, with brisk acidity enlivening the mouthfeel and providing a balancing cut. The fulsome flavours carry through to a very long and sustained, nutty finish. This is a bold and broad, mouthfilling and luscious Chardonnay with integrated citrus and nutty flavours. Match with roast pork over the next 3+ years. 17.5-/20 Sep 2013 RRP $24.95
