Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 31-Jul-2016
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple hues, youthful in appearance. This has a softly concentrated nose with a heart of firmly packed aromas of blackberry fruit entwined with black pepper and subtle notes of violet florals, fresh herbs and spices. The aromatics build in intensity with aeration. Medium-bodied, this has a ripe flavoured core of blackberry fruit layered with mineral and black pepper detail, herbs and some earthy elements. The mouthfeel is soft-textured with supple tannin extraction and integrated acidity. The tannins provide a mellow structure and the palate carries to a dry, elegant, lingering finish. This is a medium-bodied Syrah with blackberry and black pepper flavours with earthy elements and a soft, dry texture. Serve with casseroles and slow cooked lamb dishes over the next 4 years. Fruit from two sites in the Gimblett Gravels vinified separately, both given a cold soak and fermented in open top and closed stainless-steel vats, the wine aged 8 months in 29% new French oak, then blended, the wine at 12.9% alc. 17.5/20 Aug 2015 RRP $24.95
